Every single person will process alcohol at a different pace. The increments can be small, but there are a lot of little factors that make a big difference. But, the one universal factor is that the higher your BAC is, the more intoxicated you will likely feel. Furthermore, the higher your BAC— the more likely you are to receive a DUI. While as your everyday adults, over the age of 21, we all know the figure .08%. We know that if we are at or above this number, we’re going to be in a world of trouble. But, what you might not realize, is that this figure can move around a bit depending on age, and occupation. In short, the BAC limits depend on the type of driver you are…
BAC Limits: Different Standards For Different Drivers
Commercial drivers are held to a different standard than other drivers. Because the type of vehicle they operate is much larger, more dangerous, and has a higher potential for causing larger issues— their BAC limit is .04% rather than the standard .08%. Anything above that .04 is illegal, and will ultimately lead to DWI charges and a loss of CDL’s for commercial drivers.
You might or might not be aware, but there is a zero tolerance policy for anyone under the legal drinking age. Therefore, it’s not .08%, or .04%, that can get an underage driver into trouble. But, it is any amount whatsoever in their system which can lead to DWI. Furthermore, that charge can lead to trouble with school, your parents, and college applications. Because drunk driving in any capacity shows a lapse in judgement, it can be a dealbreaker for some colleges.
Standard Adult Limit
As most of us know, the standard limit for adults is that .08%. Therefore, if you hit that limit or go above it, you will face DUI charges.
Knowing the limits
The key thing to remember is that there is a degree of variation to BAC limits depending on what job you hold, and your age. While these other factors won’t apply to most of you, they will apply to some. So, it’s important that you drink safe, drive sober, and avoid DUI. The penalties for doing so are not only expensive, but long-lasting.
